About Dreamit Child Initiative
Dreamit Child Initiative is a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black girls by providing transformative opportunities in the performing arts. We believe every young woman deserves a platform to express herself, develop her talents, and discover her unique voice. Through our comprehensive programs in songwriting, live performances, and mentorship, we create a supportive community where Black girls can thrive artistically and personally.
Our mission is to inspire the next generation of artists and leaders by fostering creative expression, building confidence, and opening doors to future careers in the arts. We combine professional instruction with meaningful mentorship from experienced artists and industry professionals, ensuring our participants gain both technical skills and the guidance they need to pursue their dreams. At Dreamit Child Initiative, we’re not just teaching music—we’re building futures.
Our Programs and Services
Tell your story program
A Songwriting & Music Production Program
Dream It Child Initiative offers a comprehensive six-week summer songwriting program designed to empower girls to discover their creativity and express their authentic voices through music. Participants learn the fundamentals of songwriting, including musical composition, lyrical storytelling, and music production, while developing their artistic skills and confidence.
The program meets once a week in an after-school setting over the six-week period. The final session culminates in a special performance showcase where participants perform their original songs in front of a live audience, celebrating their creativity, growth, and accomplishments.
Dream It Child Initiative has previously partnered with the Boys & Girls Club and looks forward to continuing this partnership to inspire and support the next generation of young female creatives.
Tell Your Story: Virtual Program
Dream It Child Initiative’s Tell Your Story virtual program brings the creativity and self-expression of our songwriting program into an online learning experience. Participants can explore songwriting, lyrical storytelling, and creative expression at their own pace through on-demand video lessons and online learning modules.
Online modules coming soon! This virtual program is being developed to make creative learning more accessible and empower girls to share their stories through music.
Mentorship
Dream It Child Initiative connects aspiring young creatives with experienced music industry professionals who provide ongoing mentorship, guidance, and encouragement. Through these relationships, participants can gain valuable industry insight, strengthen their creative abilities, and explore pathways to pursue their dreams in music.
